   Bg6 woudn’t lead to checkmate because he can capture the bishop.
   i believe the correct answer would be Qf8.

   1.Qf8+ straight away can be blocked by 1…Rg8!

   1.Bg6 first then 1…fxg6 allows your idea of Qxf8 which is now ++ because the rook can’t block.

   If Black tries 1…Rxg6 then 2.fxg6 and Black can’t stop 3.Qxh7 and 3.Qxf8 — two mate threats!
