Find the incredible mate in 3. Be careful: it’s a lot harder than it looks!Solution: 1. Be2!! An incredible move, preparing a dual thunderbolt!
1…Bishop anywhere is met by 2. Qb5++.
1…Kb6 looks like it gets out in time, but White has a surprise ready: 2. Qa5+!! Incredible! Variations:
2…Kxa5 3. Bc7++! (make a note of this: this is a variation on “Boden’s mate”)
2…Kb7 3. Qa6++
2…Kc6 3. Bf3++
So lets say Black sees this, and decides to play 1…Kb7 instead. But White has come prepared again: 2. Qc8+!! Variations:
2…Kxc8 3. Ba6++ (Boden’s mate – look familiar?)
2…Ka7 3. Qb8++
2…Kb6 3. Qc7 ++
Black’s last try is to push his pawn, 1…b3. But then White plays 2. Qd7+!, mating next move, for example:
2…Kb6 3. Qc7++
2…Kc5 3. Qd6++
Make note of the power of 2 bishops on an open board! The black king was caught under a lethal crossfire of white bishops, and was hunted in an open board!
