We are absolutely thrilled with the way the children are responding to Matthew and his Chess club and Chess lessons.
He manages some particularly challenging chn v well indeed.
The teachers are so impressed with the way Matthew captures the attention of all the class.
The school as a whole is v pleased with Chess playing such a positive role in capturing the interest of the chn and aiding in the behavioural and intellectual development of the students.
We have organised for Matthew to be with Yr 4/5 from x to y in Term 4.
We would like to extend that for another 4 weeks in Term 4 for Year 4/5 class.

Jammo's Chess Puzzle No.4
I was reading through a book of chess puzzles the other day and was pleased to see an Australian player featured. The position was Koshnitsky v Wolfers (Australia 1971) which I suspect may have been a correspondence game. Gary Koshnitsky “the Grand Old Man of Australia Chess” was twice Australian Champion and an International Master at Correspondence Chess. He passed away in 1999 at the age of 91 and his last words were “checkmate!” See if you can find the winning combination that Kosh played.

Chess Kids Elite Launched
Victorian Chess at the moment has a number of very promising junior players following closely in James Morris’ footsteps. Bobby Cheng and Eugene Schon are both younger than James and not that much behind him in rating, and Laurence Matheson and Cedric Antolis are also strong players. The success of these players has created a desire in the ranks of Victoria’s very young and ambitious players to follow in their footsteps.
Naturally Chess Kids is keen to encourage and facilitate this process, in addition to our work at hundreds of schools throughout Australia encouraging chess at a grass roots level, so we have decided to introduce a new Chess Kids Elite program.
