Trophies will be awarded for:
1st Place
2nd Place
3rd Place
Top Girl
...in each Age-Division with a minimum of 4 players (2 girls minimum for Top Girl to be awarded).
Each player is entitled to ONE cash prize and ONE trophy prize – those being the highest he/she is eligible for. Placing 1st in any age-group is better than 2nd in any age-group and older age groups are better than lower.
In the case of ties on points scored we use the Bonus countback system (sum of opponents’ scores). This is also known as “Bucholz”. If available we will give an encouragement award to any player who misses out on a trophy only by countback.
Occasionally there will also be "lucky-prizes" or even cash prizes. Check the event-by-event details for all extras.
At the end of the year we take the best 4 results that each player has achieved in an RJ Shield, add the best 4 scores together to count towards a prize.
Annual Prizes will be awarded in 4 categories:
a) Best Primary Student (u/12)
b) Best Junior Secondary Student (u/14)
c) Best Secondary Student (u/18)
d) Best Girl
The prize will be a chess book plus a 1-hour private lesson from RJ (International Master Robert Jamieson of shield fame) himself!
End of Year Prizes (click here to view the progress scores so far) will be based on best 4 results only.
Certificates will be awarded to every player on the following basis:
High Distinction 6.0 points or more
